The math
1:1 is 1:1: the width is 1/1 times the height. To get a height from a width, multiply by 1 and divide by 1 — 1080 × 1 ÷ 1 = 1080. That is the 1080×1080 in the table. The calculator above does the same for any width or height, and gives the ratio of any size in the other mode.
