AVIF to JPG converter

Convert AVIF images to JPG in your browser — re-encoded once at the quality you choose, transparent areas filled with white. Free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

Part of image tools and design tools.

Reads PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, SVG, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF. Writes PNG, JPEG, WebP, ICO — ICO with every icon size up to 256 px. HEIC and TIFF decoders load only when you pick such a file.

What happens to quality

Both formats are lossy, so this is a second round of compression: the JPG is encoded from pixels the AVIF has already simplified. At 85% quality or more the extra loss is hard to see; lower than that, artefacts from both encoders stack up. Convert from the best original you have rather than from a copy that has already been through this once. JPG — labelled JPEG in the converter, the same format — is what every device, email client, print shop and upload form accepts, which is the main reason to choose it today.

What happens to transparency

JPG has no alpha channel, so it cannot store “nothing here”. Transparent areas of the AVIF are filled with white before encoding — predictable, and what most uses want; the other common default, black, is what makes converted logos come back looking broken. If the transparency matters, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

If your browser cannot open AVIF

The AVIF is decoded by your browser itself. Chrome, Edge and Firefox have read AVIF for years and Safari since version 16.4; when the fast path refuses the file, the converter retries through an image element, which some Safari versions handle first. If both fail, it says so plainly instead of producing an empty file — update the browser, or open the page in another one. An animated AVIF converts as its first frame.

Your AVIF never leaves this page

Most online AVIF to JPG converters upload the file to a server and send the result back. This one decodes and re-encodes it with the image APIs built into your browser, so the JPG you download was produced on your own machine — you can check by opening the network tab, or by going offline and converting anyway.
